Is your chimney still in use?
If your chimney is no longer used, a cap or cowl keeps out rain and birds while preserving ventilation. For stacks in poor condition, removal down to below roof level can be the most cost-effective long-term fix - we will give you both options.
Lead flashing - the usual culprit
Most chimney leaks come from the lead flashing where the stack meets the roof rather than the chimney itself. If you can see daylight, lifted lead or staining inside near the chimney breast, that is usually the place to look - and usually a straightforward repair.

- How do I know if my chimney needs repointing?
- Crumbling mortar visible from the ground, debris on the roof or in gutters, and damp patches on chimney breasts are the usual signs. We can confirm with an inspection.
- Can a chimney be removed without taking the whole stack down?
- Yes. A stack can be taken down to below roof level and the roof tiled over, leaving the chimney breast inside untouched. We will advise whether removal or repair makes more sense.
